Precision Machining Services

Weiss-Aug Group’s expertise in manufacturing critical components and assemblies utilizing metal stamping, and insert molding has been extended to capabilities in precision machining. From traditional computer numerically controlled (CNC) mills and lathes to the latest 5-axis machines and new water jet and additive technology, Weiss-Aug Group now offers its Medical Device OEM’s new capabilities to produce components and devices.

What is Precision Machining?

Precision machining involves a variety of subtractive manufacturing processes, such as cutting, grinding, and drilling, with specialized tools and computer numerical control (CNC) machines. These processes are used to create intricate and complex geometries, with the tightest tolerances, as required by demanding industries including medical devices as well as aerospace, automotive & robotics.

Weiss-Aug's modern precision machining processes achieve much tighter tolerances than standard CNC machining. While standard CNC machining produces tolerances of about 0.12 to 0.2 mm, our precision machining can achieve tolerances as close as 0.0001 in (0.0025 mm).

Typical Features and Geometries Requiring Precision Machining

Kitamura, machining
  • Custom slotting or forming that cannot be performed by upstream operations
  • Extremely small features that cannot be performed by upstream operations
  • Form fit and function areas of a critical function requirement
  • Tight tolerances or datum relationship to critical features

Innovations in Precision Machining

While precision machining technology has been around for several years, some recent technological developments have been beneficial to industries moving towards higher precision and reduced scale of mini and micro-sized products. These products are also expected to last longer and perform at a higher level of reliability than in years past.
