Laser Processing
Whether conveying unique traceability, making complex shapes, or joining dissimilar materials, laser energy does the job quickly, cleanly, and precisely. Take your design from print to production with Weiss-Aug’s laser processing services.
How does Laser Processing Work?
Production laser processing is a fabrication method in which a focused laser beam melts or vaporizes material in a localized area, creating intricate cuts, patterns, or designs. The beam’s high intensity can also be used to mate two or more components together through a process dubbed laser welding.
Benefits of Laser Processing

Pinpoint beam sizing and innovative computer-aided controls make laser processing highly accurate, fast, and affordable compared to other manufacturing methods. Additional benefits include:
Precision
The primary advantage of laser processing is the ability to hold tight tolerances, even down to +/- .001”. This makes it ideal for critical, complex projects.
Speed
Laser processing equipment works faster than traditional mechanical cutting methods, meaning high-volume jobs can be completed more quickly. This saves money and improves turnaround time.
Non-Contacting Machining Solution
For laser processing, only the beam makes contact with the workpiece. As a result, there’s no mechanical friction.
Low-Cost Process
No matter the industry, budgets matter. With no need to build custom tooling or acquire special cutting devices, laser processing is an affordable machining process.
Versatile Welding Options
Since laser welding joins materials without force, it’s ideal for use on similar and dissimilar materials, both metallic and non-metallic. Able to travel long distances and into tight crevices, it can access locations traditional welding methods can’t reach.

Our Laser Processing Capabilities
When you need workpieces laser-processed to exact requirements and delivered quickly, there’s no better partner than Weiss-Aug. As an ISO 9001:2015-, 13485:2016-, 14001:2015-certified manufacturer, we merge advanced technical expertise with a quality-first approach to turn around quality products on time and under budget.
At Weiss-Aug, we believe innovation drives success. That’s why our team has invested in cutting-edge laser processing equipment.
Our laser processing capabilities include:
Laser Cutting Services
When laser cutting, a focused laser beam melts material and with the help of a co-axial inert assist gas jet, ejects the molten material and creates kerf. A continuous cut is generated as the laser beam follows a CNC-created path. Laser cutting parameters and pressure of the inert gas will influence the heat-affected zone of the cutting area.

Laser Welding Services
For on metal welding processes, an inert gas is used to displace air and create an oxygen-free environment to protect the molten material from oxidation. In general, for laser welding applications, gaps between the two components to be welded together, should be avoided. The material on both sides melts, mixes together, and under the protection of the inert gas, in general Argon (Ag), resolidifies to produce the fused part.
Client-Tailored Laser Processing Solutions
Our build-to-print services are ideal if you have a thoroughly vetted design. With print, specification, or purchase order requirements in hand, we’ll take it from there.
Don’t worry if you have a great idea but no finalized design. With build-to-spec services, we help you turn your concept into a finished product. Once we understand your requirements, a prototype is created for testing and proving out. The prototype is refined until you’re satisfied. Upon validation, full-scale production kicks off.
There’s no reason to partner with a laser processing provider that can’t meet your requirements. Weiss-Aug takes pride in holding tolerances as tight as +/- .001”.
Laser Processing Materials We Work With
Achieving optimal performance often hinges upon the components that make up the assembly. Weiss-Aug has expertise in laser processing a variety of materials.
Typical workpieces are sheet or flat strip materials. Tube cutting and etching are available upon request. Our equipment can accommodate material thicknesses of 005” to .060” for laser cutting. Other sizes can be processed, but an engineering evaluation may be required.
We can laser process customer-supplied material or acquire it ourselves. Letting us source what’s needed saves you time and effort, freeing you to focus on what you do best.
Industries We Support
Client satisfaction is our utmost priority. This dedication to quality is why clients in many industries trust us to provide laser processing services.
